Character of a Change Agent: Finding the Strength to Love

Martin Luther King Jr.’s life serves as a template for putting God’s love into action for causes of justice and peace. As a community, we will look at the life and teachings of MLK to find the kind of character one needs to be transformative in the world for God. MLK embodied the love, truth, and courage needed to do what was right as an advocate for social change; we will explore how we too can find the strength to love.

Martin Luther King Jr. inspired millions during the 1960s civil rights movement to transform the culture of race discrimination in the United States to one that affirmed the dignity of all human beings. His tireless advocacy for social justice and the non-violent manner he used to bring about that change won him international recognition culminating in the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.

MLK’s life and teaching give us a model for how to creatively use the way of the Cross to transform and redeem conditions of injustice and violence in our time and place. In this course, we will explore these timeless principles and values as we discover how to find the strength to put God’s transformative love into action in our world.

Character of a Change Agent is a 10-week, cohort based course. Each week will consist of one group class session (1.5 hrs.) and daily rhythms of prayer, learning, and action. Like all ReWire formation, the structure and dynamic of this course is built to reflect our Inward, Outward, Together discipleship process.
